The human mind is a powerful device. The mind and the subsequent brain can heal itself and the body it resides in with the power of thought. This has been seen consistently in modern medicine, when people who never should have healed or survived did simply because they believed that they could. This is the basis of the idea that the Christian prayer group is able to heal individuals that they may not have met and may not even be aware that the group is praying for them. It is called the collective conscious healing processes.



The mysteries behind the idea that the Christian prayer group, or any prayer group, can heal from a distance is that the minds are all focused on the individuals healing and therefore are able to convince the person's body and mind that it can heal. The third thought on this process is that the collective consciousness contacted the unconscious mind of the individual, providing them with the belief of being healed, and therefore were healed.

Joining a Christian prayer group is thought to prevent illness for its members. This once again may be the collective consciousness working on the members of the group. It is hard to desire someone else's health when one's own health is failing and therefore the group supports and heals itself. It is also thought that individuals who focus on other people's health lead healthier lifestyles themselves, resulting in fewer illnesses and longer lives. The final thought on this is that the individual finds comfort and strength from a group that believes as the individual does and therefore is less prone to diseases. Having something to attend to, especially in older age, can provide the person with ample protection from depression and other conditions that may affect the individual's health.
